I'm planning on buying a better electric one soonish. I figured I'd take advantage of the exchange rate when I head over to the States later this year. I'm not in the market for any of your £1000 ones, but figured £300 -£400 should get me a good one. Then I need a good amp as mine is pants.

A US made strat should be a good buy. It doesn't have to be expensive to be OK though, the Yamaha Pacifica is a good well built beginers/intermediate guitar and less than £200

Go for a great guitar Tony, don't get second rate, this is once in a lifetime chance with the exchange rate. I reckon a grand.

I spent £1100 on mine but that was over a year ago money well spent. Rickenbacker, sounds fantastic.
