Think you make a good point notallthere, there is a romantic idealism surrounding traditional societies that frequently ignores the many downsides.
Being a psycho who does not give a tulip about my fellow man one way or another I really can't be arsed to check the former nature of Tibetan society.(Although the film Seven Years In Tibet has them concerned about nice little worms which I thoroughly approve of and anything Hollywood says must be true after all).
However, as a nationalist, someone who believes that people of ANY nation should have the right to shape their own society as they see fit, I still would support the Tibetans despite knowing bugger all about their society. They were invaded by a foreign power who had no respect for their traditions. Even if those traditions had involved sacrificing children (plenty more where those come from) I would still support them.
