Well my curiosity was aroused, so I googled some facts about Tibet pre the Chinese occupation (1951).
Life expectancy was thirty-six years
95 percent of Tibetans were illiterate.
95 percent of the population was hereditary serfs and slaves owned by monasteries and nobles.
But of course simple-minded westerners are seduced by Tibetan "spirituality". I would wager none of them would have liked to live in Tibet as a Tibetan pre-1951Hard Brexit now!
