Yes, hundreds. I suspect, however, you're really asking "Have you read the book that supports my views". Which one do you have in mind?

The Rough Guide to China says "don't idealize the pre-Chinese Tibetan administration; it was, after all, a xenophobic religious dictatorship, feudal in outlook, which stifled economic progress and tolerated slavery."

Perhaps you could do a quick precis, for all our benefit, and explain what aspects of Tibetan society are worth saving. I'm deeply suspicious of any fashionable causes. Personally, I'd take China to task over their support of N. Korea, before I worried about Tibet.

Obviously British Govt right now is not what it used to be - it does not even have balls to take on Russia, yet alone real power like China.

Exactly. But thats not spiritual enough is it. Clearly you never went on a gap year before Uni.

These e-petitions are the biggest waste of time ever. Someone is willing to take 30 secs out of their busy surfing schedule to 'fight for the cause'. As posted by someone else, if you truly believe in a cause, organise a march, get media attention, DO SOMETHING! Filling in your email address is not 'something'

I think there a far more rewarding causes than this. Unless of course the people have alzheimer's. In which case feck em.

                Signed!!

Anything that may help the Tibetan people in their peaceful aim of independence and freedom from Chinese oppression is good in my book. The Chinese have an absolutely awful record on human rights. I remember Tiananmen square when the Chinese crushed and killed hundreds of peaceful student democracy protesters with tanks in 1989.

.... and if the Scots want independence, let them have it because it will save us a fortune in state subsidies(approx. 1500 pounds per head more than other UK citizens).

If you went to Tibet you would have found that people there are not fighting for their freedom - they have generally accepted occupation and trying to make the most of it. I don't think they are the most opressed in the world - look at genocide in Darfur that is happening pretty much now en masse, and the Chinese are quietly supporting corrupt regimes in Africa - now THAT is something to fight about on Govt level.
