    Hangover query

I'm sure there are plenty on here with good experience of hangovers so can you help me.

How is it that when I'm away, how ever much I drink for however many days I seem to not get a bad headachey hangover yet everytime I go out on a Friday night I wake up with a proper stinging headache and have to write off most of my Saturday.

I can be away on Rugby trips drinking from dawn to almost dawn again for a few days, feel like death but no stingy headache, Vegas I can't remember how I got home some nights and although tired next day, no stingy headache. Even golf weekends. Skin full on the Saturday night but up and ready for brekkie and an 8.30 tee time.

Drink roughly the same things IPAs a few Guiness and maybe a JD or two towards then end. Go out in a couple of different towns so can't be one particular pub or brand.

It's getting really bloody annoying now. Anyone got any pearls of wisdom?

    Maybe.

Drinking isn't exactly a health tonic anyway, but for me the aftereffects have gotten worse as I age. So try not ageing.
If you are prone to hypertension, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, you can get effects worse than hangovers.
My doctor describes the little tiny veins in my brain clogging and rupturing, affecting cognition. With some relish, Ba*tardo.

Practically speaking, red wine now guarantees me a headache. But that doesn't sound like your problem.

Drinking water between pints helps me avoid the worst of the effects on the lash. You look a bit of a wally, but I don't care.

If I drink a pint of water with one iboprufen(sp?) before I go to bed it usually takes care of the headache in the morning.
If I'm really s*itfa*ed, I'll add one paracetamol.

There are isotonic powders and tablests that you add to water that are touted as hangover helpers, I find they work better the sooner you take them. Like while you are getting pounded or before you go to bed.

    YMMV.

Logically, the best answer is to drink less. I haven't gotten to the point of drinking alcohol-free beer yet, but it's day may come.

its called sobering up. When you're away on your rugby trips, you're probably topping yourself up in the morning, and for the golf, soaking up the remnants with your full English.

Otherwise, it's down to what you're drinking at home - don't mix grape & grain

So if the first thing I do when I open my eyes at home is reach for a can of Special Brew I should be OK? What do you think I am? Scottish?

Simple answer to hangovers is simply never stop drinking.

Alternatively, don't have wine or spirits but stick to beers.

f you want a cure then a pint or so of water before bed to stop the dehydration and a full English in the morning to put the carbs back in the system. Neither are readily achievable of course, when you are drunk...

Friends of mine swear by Zbiotics, which they take before going out for drinks and they claim they haven't suffered a hangover since.

Expensive stuff, mind. Cheaper to just drink more water.

Do you drink a lot of coffee during the week? I used to, and I got cracking headaches at the weekend when I drank far less coffee and later in the day.

Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

That's interesting. Yes I do. Love my brews although I'm on decaff now but I think you are getting at the dehydration angle rather than caffeine. Being away I might have a cup at breakfast and one take out a day so definitely a differentiator there.
