I have to respectively disagree, blending is an art and well presented by the likes of Johnnie Walker, Ballatine's and Monkey Shoulder.
I think in general the single source of a lot of drinks is 'emperors new clothes' and a certain amount of cultural snobbery. Most good wines are blended, take Bordeaux's, as are teas and coffees. The single grape is attempt to offer a perceived purity, but Cabernet is quite harsh and merlot has little body (great chilled in summer though), but well blended is a taste sensation.
Master blenders are highly skilled at producing a consistent product with varying degrees of input quality depending on yearly weather variations.
