I wonder how much that will have changed now the Tories are gone - less Russian influence/support in parliament now, so no reason to move here anymore.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore -

I equate them with all the ******** in all the 'English nationalist parties' i've encountered in my 50+ years in the country.

I won't mourn the departure of ex KGB gangsters that asset stripped Russia to buy UK mansions. Maybe we can have a clear out of all the foreign tyrants too though it might be seen as ethnic cleansing.Originally posted by WTFH View Post

Lots of Russian money in Malta, IIRC, they were selling passports for a pittance not so long ago. I suspect the issue isn't that there are loads of empty properties going unsold but rather that external buyers are helping keep the prices inflated and so making it harder for locals to buy where they need to live. It's exactly the same issue that happens in the UK, whether it's Russians or Chinese buying up tower blocks to leave them empty or Tarquin and Felicia buying a weekend pad down in Cornwall that they never visit because it doesn't have a WaitroseComment

It's just going to make it worse surely. Granted it's limited to non-EU i.e. us only but that's their major source of purchasing. Sounds like cutting nose off to spite face to me.
did you make that up or is it your dream ?

I agree with you. Housing market in tourist areas is crazy in Spain. The locals can't afford to live near where they work because so much has been bought and then rented out as air BnB.Originally posted by milanbenes View Post

Then what happens is the businesses that rely on tourists can't get local staff, so they bring in foreigners who are happy to sleep 10 to a flat for a summer job, and the wealthy locals then call all their younger counterparts lazy and selfish for daring to want to be able to afford to live.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

should they be €0.50 so locals can afford them?Originally posted by milanbenes View Post
