Do KFC (McD, BK etc) vary that much?

Don't normally eat fast food but got stuck in an airport in Spain last month, due to flight delay, and had KFC. It wasn't good. The chicken had a funny texture (rubbery/chewy), the coating didn't taste of much, and the fries weren't nice either.

Last time we had KFC was in a motorway services 20 years ago, and it was how we'd always remembered it since the late 70s.

Has it gone down hill in recent years? Or do they, and other fast food chain outlets, vary a lot from place to place?

I think after a certain age KFC does not taste the same, eg over 35, i cant stomach the greasey chicken any more . But as a student in the 90s loved it.

We must be late developers because we were in our mid 40s when we had it in the motorway services and it still tasted fine.

The stuff we had last month in the Spanish airport was nothing like what we remembered.

Despite the best efforts of head office it varies per Franchise and tastes different in each country.

McDonalds in USA, France & UK taste different and have different menu options.

BK in Barcelona airport tasted fine a year ago.

We were in Lanzarote, which we've always found pretty mediocre food-wise. Maybe that's the reason the KFC is sub-par.

BTW, if anyone knows a decent Chinese, or other restaurants, in Puerto del Carmen...

We've been to loads of Michelin restaurants there. As in, food that's like eating tyres.

Not sure why it's worse than the Costas and Balearics but that's been our experience over the past 30 years.

I was very pleased when I took the family to a McDonald's in France some years back and found they served beer!
