Who needs ID when the Landlords are sympathetic and your sister works in the offy?

I was over High Wycombe the other Day it was £5 a pint of Brakspear. £2.80 for a pint of coke.(I was driving).

Last time I was in town it was about £4-5 here. https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pub-hi...tle-farringdon

I can remember back in the 1990's when a lecturer at my uni turned up sloshed at 9am of a Monday morning and instead of giving us a lecture on c++ gave us a lecture about the dangers of smoking and the perils of doing the lottery. We all just sat around laughing at the poor ****
To be fair that was the last time he did turn up drunk!

Working in the offy was lucrative as if you got stolen bank or credit cards of people you would get extra money.

My friends who worked in offys made a lot even though they had to work behind barriers.

Anyway the pubs, bars and nightclubs knew your ID was fake.

For me it was before bank cards existed. And credit cards were new fangled.

My daughter and her friends bought their fake IDs from China at aged 16/17 which seemed fairly convincing. However, quite a few venues in our town now have scanners for IDs to detect fakes and compare pictures to known troublemakers. And some are 19 or 20 and over, at least on some nights.

                How old are you grandad?

Credit cards were introduced in Britain in 1966 and debit cards in 1987. These are important forms of payment. The first contactless bank cards were introduced in the UK in 2007, making card transactions even more convenient
I was working on smart cards in 88.

I think the first was Amex so maybe they weren't common until the 80s.

Diners Club, 1950, septicland. More correctly a chargecard rather than a CC.

Barclaycard, 1966, UK. Got mine in 1972 and it's about to be cut up & burned.

Access, 1972, UK. Got mine in 1974: cut up & burned when they had the inneresting idea of charging fees way back when. I think I've still got the bills somewhere.

54 - quite a young grandad, but one nonetheless.

Well I was 18 in 1987, so just as the first bank cards came out. Which means my point stands - my sister didn't get any bonus for finding fraudulent bank cards. Furthermore in the 80s while of course credit cards existed, they were no way as ubiquitous as they are now. I recall the account I opened in 1990 was the first with a bank card. In the 80s many shops just didn't take credit cards. Such as small, independent offies.
