Flew into City airport this morning and am now ensconsed in a hotel in Canary Wharf. Seems to be a few places to eat although no boozers and apparently public transport is on strike so going elsewhere could be fraught with being trapped in somewhere like Gidea Park! So, I know there are people who work in this place of concrete (and there were security checks this morning), recommendations would be appreciated. I've found Dishoom which doesn't look too bad and some place called Nandos which is a bit cheaper but that Hawksmoor place looks a bit steep (although I am on full expenses.) TIA and cheers

Polentina is walkable I'd say, although depends how adventurous you are. Wanted to go for ages, apparently really good Italian (and not the noodles with ketchup type).Comment

Not been to the Dishoom there but eaten at several other branches. Very good food but was starting to get a little bit pricey for what was supposedly traditional Indian 'cafe style' food.Comment

Cheers, will report back on what I find. Last night was just M&S salad and fruit as I was too knackered.
Points of note so far:
- you can pay for everthing cash free and I now know how to use my phone for that I just like to tip staff cash so I know they're getting it and not the management
- have been asked for ID twice (office and hotel) and both times tried to point out that the UK doesn't really have an ID system. I just gave them my Perso (German ID card)
- turned on the telly and saw that Last Of The Summer Wine was on, one of my favourite programs except...Russ Abbott, the geezer from George and Mildred, the Chinese guy who used to beat up Peter Sellers is now Compo although there are still a few of the originals still in it. Confused me...

Not sure where your hotel is, and I haven't been in Canary Wharf since pre-COVID times, but we used to go to the Henry Addington on Middle Dock, it was the closest thing to a normal pub that we knew of - https://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/res...arywharflondonComment

Canary Wharf is still regarded as a high risk area which probably played a role.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment
