I noticed that, there was a security check as I came in and they were searchinf vans and there seems to be a lot of barriers and such like around.

It' a privately owned estate which I think many people don't realise so yeah they can get away with imposing security checks/searches that wouldn't otherwise be lawful. The security could kick you out if you didn't present ID when asked if they so wished. I remember they used to have serious issues with photography.

If it's funky and trendy they probably expect you to either have a big Mr Twit beard, or use a cutthroat or similar non-safety razor with your (non-badger) shaving brush.

Not been to the Dishoom there but eaten at several other branches. Very good food but was starting to get a little bit pricey for what was supposedly traditional Indian 'cafe style' food.
