    NHS satisfaction...

    There isn't any.

    https://www.theguardian.com/society/...el-in-40-years
Satisfaction with the NHS has plummeted to a record low of just 29% amid intense public frustration with long waits for care, understaffing and lack of government funding.

The striking picture of deep and growing disenchantment with the health service is mirrored by a recent spike in dissatisfaction with the NHS overall to 51% – double what it was in just 2020 – as well as a range of key services including GP care (42%), dentistry (42%) and A&E (40%).

Opposition parties and the leader of Britain’s doctors claimed the findings, from a long-established annual survey of attitudes towards the NHS, were a “damning indictment” of the Conservatives’ handling of the service since they became the government in 2010.

The results, from the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), show satisfaction with the NHS has collapsed from the record high 70% seen in 2010, the year Labour lost power, to 29% last year. That is the lowest level of satisfaction seen in the 40 years the research into public perceptions of the NHS has been undertaken.

NHS funding could be tripled and it still wouldn't solve its problems - money isn't *the* problem. It needs breaking up.

      No it doesn't.

Each time part of it gets sold off/broken up, all that happens is more management consultancies are brought in, followed by more managers and more inefficiencies. Not everything is improved by adding management, selling parts off, or making things profit centres.

While privatising the NHS may be the desire of the wealthy and those who think that anyone who needs state support (apart from the pension) is a scrounger, it was one of the things that Britain used to be proud of. Of course, in today's snowflake culture, we're not allowed to be proud of anything where the country acted in a kind and caring way, and that must be cancelled or turned into profit.

The NHS is no longer fit for purpose, it's precisely the addition of layers of management creating their little fiefdoms that has added to the problems of running something so big and unweildy.

Your earlier suggestion seemed to be that you wanted it breaking up into even more little fiefdoms, or have you a better idea than that?

It needs reorganising, it pays over the odds for medicines & services. Their are little kingdoms etc. Reminds me of a 1980s large organisation. Now they are all slimmed down and better run - well the ones I worked in are or went bust.

A thorough overhaul with someone who knows what they are doing and the costs will fall and the satisfaction will rise.

I agree with that but I don't think breaking it up will fix it.

The NHS lacks a clear vision as to what its service boundaries are - it is so many different things to so many different people that it has become bloated and inefficient. It needs someone with the backbone to define what the NHS is and, more importantly, isn't and push through the reforms needed to meet the revised service definition. That person (or could be a team/panel) can't be a politician looking for re-election in 5 years' time as this is going to take much longer.

Some services could be privatised but the core service (whatever that is defined as) should remain free to UK residents.

It's a fairly well proven principle that when something isn't working well, smashing it doesn't make it work better.
Any changes have to be made in-place and that means major organisational restructuring can only happen very slowly, with a lot of planning, to avoid knackering things further during the interim.

                No wonder it's almost impossible.

They were discussing the US system on LBC and a lady did a very convincing sales pitch on medicare gap (USA option) until Nick Ferrari found out (from a researcher) that the average customer paid >$500 for the gap payments. For me the one statistic that convinces me is that 50% of bankruptcies are medical related. Your partner is dying and you end up bankrupt.

Just charging those not eligible will help.

If they haven't got any money how are you going to charge them?
