Perhaps the number of people calling themselves "Christian" has dropped as they have read the Bible and decided that politics/money is more important than the social aspect of Christ's teaching.
Remember when Cecil Parkinson resigned for having an affair, or David Mellor, Tim Yeo, but now it's considered par for the course and perfectly acceptable for MPs to be adulterers.
If our leaders don't consider themselves accountable, then it's not surprising that those who support them also follow in their footsteps of considering parts of Christ's teaching to be very optional.
You think people look to politicians for moral guidance? Or is it only Christians?

      Perhaps Christians are being outbred.
More likely they're inbred if you're a reflection of their views.

I still can't get my head around educated, intelligent people believing in a 'god' .... never been any evidence ever that a god of any flavour has ever existed, and yet because of a fear that when we go, that's it, humans hang on to this belief that there is a 'better' place once we die.

        Total bonkers.

We get one shot at this life. It's not a rehersal for a 'better place' ... this is it folks. Enjoy the ride, because when you're dead, that's it.

Who do you look to for guidance?
Who do you believe - is it politicians, certain media outlets, wealthy businessmen, religious leaders?

The concept of "moral guidance" is interesting, as it appears that popularity and celebrity have overtaken teaching.

The term "Christian" used to mean "follower of Christ".
Those who seem most upset about the results of the recent census also seem to be those with lots of St George Cross flags in their profiles on Twitter. Their profiles talk about England, Britain, hatred of the EU, hatred of the left.
Very few mention Christ in their profile, yet they are upset by the results.

Plenty of very intelligent people believe in a God. She laughs at your opinion

            Belief is pretty personal.

I can't understand why anyone believes in the current labour party.

Its not massive unpopular unmanaged inward immigration sanctioned by consecutive governments with no attempts at integration and a failure to provide sufficient services. Its all them imaginary racists displaying the flag of their country. Do they have a white van as well?

You are Pennny Mourdant and I claim my £5.

Maybe most British people have decided their God has forsaken them? Mohammed (with all its spellings - there was only one prophet) was again the most popular boys name this year.

Indeed. Many describe themselves as such because they were christened or just assume this is the default/told by their parents.
My guess is more like 10%, perhaps 5%.

It is true that on average, atheists are smarter than religious people, but there's plenty of smart religious people and plenty of thick atheists. It's a common idea among the smugger (and dumber) atheists that religious people are by definition stupid, but it doesn't stand up to the evidence. Here's a list of scientists alive today who are Christians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...rrently_living

Even more are deists - believing some kind of creator God exists, especially among physicists. Paul Davies, for example.

At least the current labour party exists, and any dislike of them is based on the reality of what they are doing/not doing. Any belief in a 'god' is pure fantasy.

I'm not saying anything about atheists being cleverer () than believers, I'm saying I find it hard to understand how an intelligent, educated person can still believe in something that, let's face it, is pure fantasy.

I get that it's in human nature to need to believe in something as the unknown, or in this case the fear that dying is the end, is quite hard to accept ... but of the billions of dead over the centuries none have ever come back. There is no recorded evidence that any of the flavours of gods have ever been on earth, there are so many different gods that most humans over the milleniae are actually wrong even if just one of the gods existed.

The religious texts, if they were dictated by a 'god' should have known stuff that humans of that time did not ... and yet every text knowledge is limited to the knowledge that humans had at that moment (in the bible there was mention if carpenters, but not plumbers or electricians .... and where were the dinosaurs?)

I don't care if people believe ... I just think it's sad that people can waste this one chance of a life in the flawed belief that there is something else afterwards. Such a waste based on lies.
