Lots of back-benchers do. Especially those who are now certain the shenanigans has cost them their careers and have no reason to feign allegiance to party over their constituents.

I still think the binning of Boris was about more than just a few misdemeanours, individually of minor significance set against his various achievements. Most likely it was the staunch Remainers who wanted him out, plus the usual "senior but failed" malcontents like Gove and Raab. On that basis there will always be a lot of noise, boosted by the other parties, about his integrity and suitability for office. As I said before, he did a lot of good.

The Harperson-led committee has already decided he was guilty of misleading Parliament over the Pierce affair and the Partygate bollocks, and have unilaterally changed the rules to mean he is guilty regardless of any one of deliberate lying, forgetfulness, carelessness or regarding what he said as expedient representation of reality . The outcome of that will be interesting. However it may mean enough support is withheld to avoid a sitting PM being found guilty.

However he is not a stupid man by any means and no doubt will have learned a lot form his defenestration.

The odds are still on Sumac, making it through. In which case, the next GE is a formality. The public don't like him and he will get the blame for high taxation, badly managed inflation and the rest. And given he was primarily the driver behind Boris going, he is not best placed to unite the rest of the idiots behind him.

The public like Rishi a whole heck of a lot more than Boris. Your peer group might think differently but that's confirmation bias at work. Of Course Rishi managed to get caught up in Partygate too and that put a target on his back for the tabloids "oh look he's got a rich wife" which has tarnished him.

But as it is, Rishi was the government's preferred choice last time round and he basically predicted this mess if Liz pursued her policies and was vindicated. I've heard several Labour voters saying "I wish Rishi was in" and he retains a lot of love from all the people who got bounce-back-loans and furlough.
Liz was forced to instigate Rishi's "high tax" policies anyway and it seems obvious that's going to happen whoever is in charge. Remember that Rishi was chosen by, and supported by your beloved Boris as chancellor. Boris is not going to come in and slash taxes.

All very well saying what would happen if Truss got in, but I didn't see a lot of that proactive management of the economy before then - the focus was on pushing up taxes and borrowing to fund "investment" - which we are back to again it seems - so why not 18 months ago when the seeds of the current mess were being sown?

And for the last time I don't have a peer group of any kind. That's just your lot's childish fantasy. Some of us can come to our own conclusions.

What would happen if nobody gets 100 nominations? Given the state of the government this sort of shambles in organisation is not inconceivable.

Borrowing to fund investment after a pandemic is hardly controversial.

You're admitting you don't have any friends? I'm not sure who "my lot" are supposed to be, which demographic are you assuming me part of?

The public's view of Boris isn't a conclusion you can come to, it's empirical data.
