PM to hold press conference at 2pm

The prime minister will hold a press conference later today - amid speculation she is going to drop plans to cut corporation tax.
The briefing will be held at 2pm, Reuters news agency reports.

Deputy political editor Sam Coates says sources have told him "it looks as if the deal has been done".

He says it is "quite likely to be some kind of announcement today, which is quite likely to involve a rise in corporation tax".
"This is her flagship policy now, very much in the firing line, potentially within hours, maybe even just within the minute."
Coates says there have been "emerging tensions" over who should get the blame for the first U-turn of this mini-budget, which was the decision to go back on the decision to scrap the top rate of tax.

These issues have contributed to a difficult first five and a half weeks on the job for Ms Truss and her chancellor, and now, they're having to come back together, Coates adds.

Higher corp tax not necessarily a bad thing for economic growth - companies might prefer to reduce tax take by investing in R&D or hiring more employees VS attracting business to the UK solely on having the lowest rates.

The main rumour is that Kwasi is being fired.

It's more than a rumour, it's confirmed by multiple (credible) sources, which means that Truss won't be too far behind.

And, yes, reversal of Chapter 10 is quite unlikely now, especially if Sunak is involved in the next administration. Either way, it's easier to retain existing legislation than force through a change.

Maybe Chancellor will be the new Brexit Minister... they'll roll through letting everyone have a turn.

One of the most amusing things about this debacle is that she's completely alienated even the tiny fraction of the electorate that supported her. All of the people spitting at the original measures will still be spitting, as will those that supported them. Meanwhile, the majority of the electorate that only turns on to politics when something big happens will be spitting too. I think she has something like sub-10% approval, which is worse than Corbyn at his worst
