Is it the norm to be asked to use own computer for an Inside IR35 contract?

Received my 'Lean' laptop from client yesterday and it is the first time I haven't felt excited about unboxing a new device.

Luckily I only need it in the office and can continue using my Macbook Pro the rest of the time.

Did I see somewhere that CCCleaner had been classed as a malicious app? To be fair this may have been sometime ago and the issue may now be resolved.

both SSD & 8GB

SSMS & visual studio are a few seconds faster on the work machine. Browsing,Teams & RDP the same speed i.e. fast enough.

MacAfee or Norton are far more invasive than Microsoft Defender. Uninstall and move to Defender. Get a copy of CCCleaner to remove the TSR style stuff.

What makes it old and unreliable?
What OS are you running?
Surely you can just clean up the machine and get on with it, or are you looking for an excuse to get out of the contract?

You've not mentioned the spec of your laptop, so it's hard to make a call on certain things, but in my experience a few years ago, McAfee is bloated and slows systems down. I would remove it (and try to remove all the other things it has installed without you knowing) and then run Windows Defender.
Unless you spend your days on the dark web, TPB, PornHub, etc, then WD will do a perfectly good job - if your computer is running W10 or later.
Windows Defender is also free.

I have just been informed that I am being assigned a laptop at work that I don't really want. My dev box is actually a Desktop On Demand and this machine will be for thin client access so it is low spec and locked down so I can't even use it for anything useful on my commute.
