Seriously fella, if this is your biggest issue at the moment then you're in a good place so stop whining. Many out there are going to be in fuel poverty, struggle to get by week by week. And you're fixated on the extra bit of tax you may have to start paying again.

Suck it up and be thankful that you earn enough to be affected by that tax rate.

Unlikely - the change won’t be to I come taxes it will be a wealth based tax or introduction of NI on pensioners

It was Brown who introduced the 45% band, just before he left office. It was a deliberately political move aimed at creating problems when a Tory government reversed it. It was never in effect under Labour making their current bleating about its restoration somewhat hypocritical

I was mildly innerested to find that the basic rate was 41% back in 1970.

It was Brown who introduced the 45% band, just before he left office.

No, Brown did 50%, this was reduced to 45% by Osborne, but he also jacked up dividend taxes so even at 40% current level diidend taxation remains a LOT higher than it used to be (25%-ish vs 32.5%).

It will be at least 45% for sure, most likely 50%, PLUS they will align dividend/CGT with income levels of tax, PLUS they will certainly increase corp taxes, PLUS they will most likely increase Employer NICs PLUS most likely a form of "wealth" tax that will be called differently (ie: "enhanced council levy bad").
