Totally agree with this, but, only as long as we can be 100% sure their recruitment and career progression is totally free of blockers for gender and race and I don't think we can be at the moment.

I do think a blanket ban on the majority of the country is totally the wrong way to do it. They need to be very very careful with this policy and very transparent. I believe the number of non white in the UK is only 14%. A good majority of that 14% will be ineligible for security clearance due recent arrival to the UK or other aspects so if they want to meet diversity targets they haven't got a very high number to meet. Sub 10% non white and they've nailed it, anything more then it's a flawed policy.

It's a good point but you've got to consider other elements. How many people from a certain national demographic can or want to join the UK defence teams due to religious or patriotic reasons? Obviously will affect some areas much more than others but you can't just use demographics as a broad argument.

They aren't just flying. They are defending the UK and will be involved in action in other countries.

I think there are some differences to be considered when comparing UK forces to any other general job.
