    P&O Ferries (Again)

There is a doubt P&O can restart the Dover to Calais route before Easter.

Another ship, the Spirit of Britain, has been detained....

(See it was a good idea and cheaper to sack 800 British workers.)

Another P&O Ferries vessel has been detained casting doubt on its Dover operations resuming before Easter.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said inspectors had found a "number of deficiencies".

The Spirit of Britain ship, which normally serves the Dover to Calais route, cannot set sail until the issues have been addressed.

Surveyors said they did not know when this would be. P&O has faced criticism after sacking 800 staff without notice.

"We have advised P&O to invite us back once they have addressed the issues. We do not know yet when this will be," the MCA said.

P&O's Dover-Calais routes are currently suspended and the company has said it will not resume services on the route before Friday at the earliest.

The MCA has been making its way through inspections of eight P&O Ferries to ensure they are fit to sail.

The Pride of Hull and European Causeway have been inspected and cleared to sail, while the Pride of Kent, which normally serves the Dover to Calais route, remains under detention with the Spirit of Britain.

P&O Ferries has been contacted for comment.

DFDS have dropped their reciprocal arrangement as well.

Passengers who had booked to travel with P&O Ferries from Dover this weekend are being left to source their own travel, as rival operator, DFDS, will no longer convey P&O ticket holders.

Anyone who had booked to travel with the company on the 8th, 9th or 10th of April will now have to book with another operator, leaving passengers scrambling to claim their money back from P&O.

The company announced the news on its Twitter feed on Tuesday afternoon.

It said: "All P&O Ferries Passenger Services are suspended this weekend.

"For travel 8/9/10th April please re-book directly with another operator before arriving at the port.

"DFDS will not be able to transfer P&O customers onto their services."

ITV News Meridian has tried to contact P&O Ferries but they refused to talk to us.
hmm those cost savings not looking so good now!

So P&O have stopped paying DFDS back for carrying their customers?

Invite back when complete tells me P&O won't be sailing this week.

it was a reciprocal arrangement as I understand kit, if DFDS had too many passengers -> P&O and vice versa.

but I suspect the trust is gone.

Quid pro quo works for a couple of days if you are down a ship. It doesn't work when your entire fleet is unable to sail.

It's not about trust, but about volume of traffic and cost.
If DFDS are struggling to cope with all their own customers, then they will now want to take on others.

eek hit the nail on the head. also few people would actively invest in P&O with the government gunning for them.

Kind of ironic with all this going on no? Surprised it didn't sink.

Yeah far better to lose all the jobs, on and off shore, than to let them run their company.
