They've asked you to go to an illegal event.
Both you and they have a legal responsibility to obey the law.
If they pick on you for not turning up then you have to use the current equality laws to take them to a tribunal. Either way the fact they are picking on you means you have lost your job.

At least they've, as promised, made this public. Though in reality it was only going to be leaked so best to get out beforehand.
