They've asked you to go to an illegal event.
aka "just following orders"... people have individual judgement and personal responsibility. One doubts they would be looking to fine everyone who attended though based on how they were applied at the time of lockdown. Aside from a few overly officious coppers, fines were supposed to be for those who deliberately broke the rules.

You don't attend and make up a legit sounding excuse for not doing so e.g. medical issues, family emergency.

Both you and they have a legal responsibility to obey the law.

If they pick on you for not turning up then you have to use the current equality laws to take them to a tribunal. Either way the fact they are picking on you means you have lost your job.

The government's former head of ethics has apologised after receiving a fine from the police for attending a party in the Cabinet Office during lockdown.

        Oops.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak will be fined by the police for attending parties during lockdown.

                Bye bye Rishi.

You should have kept that Green card.

At least they've, as promised, made this public. Though in reality it was only going to be leaked so best to get out beforehand.

I don't think it will cost them their jobs if it's a simple fixed penalty type thing. Not immediately anyway.

Killed Rishi's chance of being PM when Boris leaves.

Think of all the things Boris has done that didn't stop him becoming PM. We might find all the other contenders are in the same situation anyway!
