Your take, as usual, is wrong - I guess when somebody like you (not particularly clever in the first place) eats on a regular basis utter tulipe produced by the likes of ZH or RT, which is whole level worse than usual tripe of DM, then it MAY APPEAR to you that everyone else also lies.

They obviously dug trenches because that's what the manual said, plus they did not want to die quickly from potential long range artillery/rocket fires, so now they'll die slowly.
