I only view money as a gateway to freedom. If spending it on "things" doesn't make you happy (as it rarely does me) then try experiences, else invest it somewhere that will eventually buy you time and freedom.Comment

I, like the majority of us on here, earn a good wage and shouldn't have any long term financial concerns. The last frivolous purchase I made for myself took me three years to pull the trigger even though I had more than enough cash on hand for the purchase to not even make a dent.
The irony at the moment is I have just been given a large sum of money from my grandmother and parents who are very much of Tarbie's you are a long time dead philosophy who are keen for me to spend in while they are still alive, yet I some how still struggle to justify spending money on myself."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

My parents give me a few thousand a year to distribute among the family. Increasingly I've no idea what to spend it on, so I just cut myself out of the split.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Coming from relatively little to relative wealth my take on money is that it's really just a tool. I went quite quickly from living month-to-month to having a much bigger income and realised the power of money to expedite things and remove obstacles. Small examples being:- people generally shop around looking for the cheapest price, but just buying the thing with the least effort and next-day delivery can remove a blocker to getting something done.
- If I want to travel somewhere, I would normally look ahead to when I can get reasonable priced tickets, and work around that. With money, I just book when it's convenient.
