Because BR couldn't be arsed to even copy the first paragraph of the news story here it is...
A Linlithgow pub has announced plans to change its name from The Black Bitch to The Black Hound.
To be fair anything with the term 'Bitch' in it is open season to be changed. Granted it's the name of a female dog but it's not a very nice word. So I've no problem for that being changed just on good taste terms. The black bit is neither here nor there really. The change to Black Hound proves it's **** all to do with racism so need not be mentioned.
I've zero problems with this one being changed to be fair but I don't think they need to use racism as a reason as Black Hound is perfectly fine. Changing the noun doesn't make a blind bit of difference to racism so why bring it up?Last edited by northernladuk; 2 December 2021, 17:26.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!! -
What does boil my piss is that exercise they did going round student campuses asking if they should rename 'Black Friday' and all the ******* morons say yeah it's promoting racism and not inclusive. They need tying to a pole and rogering with a large stick. Educate them that black is linked to the banks and businesses going from being in the red and going in to the black. If they then still say it should be changed cause it's racist then they really shouldn't be allowed to voice their stupid opinions. Better still if they are on a banking/finance/business course and say that then just kick them off because they've clearly got a problem with a fundamental term in their area of learning and aren't fit to be there.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment

?
It describes a female dog.
A particular female dog entrenched in the folk history of the town.
but that's irrelevant to your 'good taste'.Comment

You wouldn't have a hair place that does the old ladies call 'Smells of piss blue rinse saloon'. It's factually correct but it's bad business.
EDIT : Ahhh I do see it's historical and has an interesting story around it. I won't really care if they leave it as it is TBF but deffo keep the racism out of it. That's out of order for sure.Last edited by northernladuk; 2 December 2021, 17:48.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment

Agree that while B*tch is technically correct it may be offensive to some, changing it is just sensible. I do look forward to the wokerati demanding we rename all the Queen's Arms/Head pub as it may offend some in the LGBTAZ+ community.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

In terms of "ridiculous snowflakery" I'd hardly put the renaming of a pub called "The Black Bitch" near the top of list - I'm surprised it has lasted this long tbh. Just as it probably wasn't woke libtardery in the 1800's that triggered the renaming all our gropec*nt lanes.Comment

This isn't exactly a very new story. Greene King have been renaming a lot of their pubs with the word "Black" in it due to the racist connotations and possible links to slavery. A pub they sold on in Oxfordshire indicates the slavery link is possibly true - https://blackboyoxford.co.uk/about/
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-56040545
A brewery has renamed four of its pubs over concerns they had racist connotations.
Greene King has changed the names of three pubs called The Black Boy, and another called The Black's Head.
Managing director Wayne Shurvinton said there was a perception the names were "linked with racism".
Dr Halima Begum, of The Runnymede Trust, welcomed the news, saying the names had been a continual reminder of a "history of oppression".
The Black Boy pubs - in Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury in Suffolk, and Shinfield in Berkshire - along with the Black's Head, in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, have been given new names, but Greene King says it will take a while for the signage to be changed.
It is believed there are about 70 pubs called The Black Boy in the UK, and there remains no consensus on where the name comes from.
Links to the mining industry and a nickname for King Charles II have both been cited as possibilities.
Another theory relates to Native American figures placed outside premises to sell tobacco.
Mr Shurvinton said "despite the obscure origins" there was a perception the names were "linked with racism, which is why we knew we had to take this step if we wanted to continue on our journey to become a truly anti-racist organisation".

What SE said. The fact they are calling it Black Hound appears to me that they are being pretty sensible around the word 'Black' which can't be said for a lot of people/businesses nowadays.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment
