Saying "I don't want to p1ss on anyone's chips, but..." isn't quite the thing to say in this situation, but my mind's gone blank.

Any diplomatic help appreciated.

(or parade or spoil plans etc. )

Or you could just tell 'em straight. Anything that precedes a "but" is pretty much a "fook you" anyway.

She can let people down gently. In fact she's very much like the BOFH. She lets them down gently from the 5th floor window. Unfortunately after her gentle let down, gravity takes over for the next 4 floors.
