    Need an alternative phrase

I'm trying to let some people down gently.

Saying "I don't want to p1ss on anyone's chips, but..." isn't quite the thing to say in this situation, but my mind's gone blank.

    Any diplomatic help appreciated.

"I don't want to rain on your cretinism, but..."

(or parade or spoil plans etc. )

Or you could just tell 'em straight. Anything that precedes a "but" is pretty much a "fook you" anyway.

I think there may be a small challenge in that approach i.e. <XXXX>.

Possibly if we did it <this way> we would avoid the difficulty <XXXXX> / widescale sackings I would expect if you cockwombles continue on your downward trajectory ?

        sorry lost the diplomacy feature.

Is the situation a funeral service?

In which case, tone it down to "He will be missed sadly by all of us, and I'd now like to read a condolence card signed by Prince Andrew's bodyguards."

              These are nice people.

              You know, not contractors.

Thanks JB, raining on parade is the right phrase.

So, I'm just off to p1ss in their chips. Back in a jiffy...

She can let people down gently. In fact she's very much like the BOFH. She lets them down gently from the 5th floor window. Unfortunately after her gentle let down, gravity takes over for the next 4 floors.
