Ban all guns for civilians other than for farmers

You already have to prove you have a safe place to keep it at home in order to get your license. It's not unreasonable for competition guns to be kept at licensed venues though.

There is little to no purpose for having a shotgun at home, so why keep it there even locked away?

Shotguns are recognised as legitimate tools for farmers and land owners. As well us used for hunting - a straightforward shooting weekend. And for sport shooting, I think you are allowed to do clay pigeon/trap shooting on your own premises.
