    DOOM: Gulf Stream collapse

"Climate crisis: Scientists spot warning signs of Gulf Stream collapse

A shutdown would have devastating global impacts and must not be allowed to happen, researchers say

Climate scientists have detected warning signs of the collapse of the Gulf Stream, one of the planet’s main potential tipping points.

The research found “an almost complete loss of stability over the last century” of the currents that researchers call the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). The currents are already at their slowest point in at least 1,600 years, but the new analysis shows they may be nearing a shutdown.

Such an event would have catastrophic consequences around the world, severely disrupting the rains that billions of people depend on for food in India, South America and West Africa; increasing storms and lowering temperatures in Europe; and pushing up the sea level in the eastern US. It would also further endanger the Amazon rainforest and Antarctic ice sheets."

Except it won't be wet, it will be under 2km of ice.

its been predicted that due to global warming UK summer temperature will hit 40 degrees.
If gulf stream collapses UK will be under a sheet of ice.
I guess both of them will even out and we will have a barmy weather.

No idea what the other effects of a Gulf Stream shutdown might be, but the idea that it will plunge Northern Europe back into an ice age is apparently a myth: http://ocp.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/div/ocp/gs/

Now that covid is going away the news media have to keep their numbers up or they will lose advertising revenue. The next 6 months is going to be Kay Burley screaming at your kids that they are going to burn to death.

Well seing as how it kind of relies on sy=un warming oceans, ice cooling oceans and the planet spinning for the Gulf Stream to happen, I don't think this is any more than the usual "fwiten them" puff piece.

It's not what you measure, it's how you interpret the data. And if you are of a mind to swing it one way then you can.

It might not be too bad for us in the UK, but winters will be damned chilly in Norway and Finland!

Globally yes. Locally, no. While another ice age is very unlikely, temperatures across Europe would most likely drop. The UK would experience lower temperatures and more snow.
