    Home Security

    Anyone tried this out?

    https://metro.co.uk/2021/07/07/homeo...e-is-14889585/

A home security company is recruiting ex-burglars with ‘at least one conviction’ to help road test its products.

Boundary, based in Edinburgh, is advertising a ‘Borrow-a-Burglar service which allows homeowners to hire an ex-con who will come to their home and test how they might be able to gain entry.

The consultation also involves the burglar giving some tips for what precautions people should take to protect themselves against would-be thieves.

The company is warning that, as lockdown ends, more homes will be vulnerable to burglaries because they are more likely to be left empty for long periods of time.

One of those already working with the company, Luke Harris, 32, from Warminister, Wiltshire, had been burgling homes for 12 years before deciding to change his ways six years ago.

The dad-of-two, who knows ‘all the tricks of the trade’, has been helping to ‘product test’ and is holding consultations with homeowners.

Boundary want more ex-burglars to send in their CVs and are looking for those who ‘have extensive knowledge of domestic burglaries.’

If it receives a large amount of interest, it will look to expand the service, it said.

Robin Knox, CEO of the company, said: ‘Most of us don’t have the mindset of a burglar and therefore wouldn’t spot half of the places they might be able to gain access to in our homes.

‘With lockdown restrictions set to come to an end at some point over the summer, we’d expect criminals to be on high alert for empty homes to target.

‘By giving the public the rare opportunity of inviting an ex-burglar into their homes to point out weaknesses, we hope to be able to continue to make Britons feel safe in their own homes.’

Anyone can apply to have their home checked but only a few will be chosen to receive the service in a random draw on July 30.

Great, get paid to case the joint. So how is this different than before 'lockdown'? If you need this kind of service the Police will happily do an assessment and tell you where you need to tighten up.

It's not different than before lockdown. But people have got used to being at home 24/7.
Police might know the theory, but someone who actually did it and can come round try things makes sense. Same principle as cyber security.

Indeed. But most of them aren't.

indeed. But their expertise does not correlate with number of conviction. It's quite the opposite.

Not really. By that logic people with only 1 conviction are still pretty good. But it might mean they got caught the first time.

One imagines they do some some of aptitude test like "if you can get into my house for the interview, you pass".
