Right, so you won’t accept 20% wage cut in order to ensure your underpaid colleagues get a pay rise.

Now why would customers accept increase in their costs when they did not get a payrise?

When I had no choice I have accepted a pay cut. However my next objective would to be to leave the company that was why my middle job was short.

If I was worth 20% less then I get a pay cut, if I am worth 20% more I move to get a pay-rise.

That is reality and exactly what the hauliers did, they forced the drivers wages down, now they have no drivers they will have to put up wages. Lets hope Boris explains it to them and they are bit cleverer than you.

No, it was B.....t and specifically idiotic Boris's version of B....t that fecked those companies over.

One would have thought in logistics where lots of drivers are involved their wages would be very large proportion of total cost, even increasing that by 10% might require very significant savings elsewhere, but as you say - you'll bugger off and it will be their problem, very nice attitude to life, especially to those who pay you your wage.

How high drivers wage would need to be anyway, if a not enough people in this country will be interested, do you think current generation wants a drivers job even if it pays double than it is now?

And if everybody started paying £40k, that would magically create more drivers?

You fail to see the root cause of the problem - B....t that resulted in less drivers available.

No you fail to realise the root cause of the problem. Drivers were undercut by cheap labour and so drivers realised HGV driving wasn't career worth pursuing.

Now the businesses haven't got cheap labour they need to start training replacements at a living wage.

It was freedom of movement that caused the problem. Removal of that exposed it.

40 grand per annum, plus employer taxes?

It would be cheaper to replace them with AI.

Higher labour costs is what gives them the incentive.

                      FTFY

Automation is coming to a workforce near you. Labour costs will never be cheap enough for some employers. McDonalds is happily displacing minimum wage staff with Kiosks, Banks displaced counter staff on peanuts with ATMs its progress.
