I think finding smart people in poor households is less likely now. Intelligent bloodlines sometime crash and take a few generations to get back up, but the root causes like war, death of a young parent or getting unfairly financially shafted are just much less likely now.

Also psycho divergent people with Asperger's and the like who are often highly intelligent don't get flung in with the dingbats at school now.

Aspergers & Autism are frequently found in children of less academic people. Whilst bloodlines do sometimes have advantages much of genius is random.

Are their known or suspected environmental causes/links to either of these conditions? A friend works in a special school predominantly autistic children and wa saying a while back autism has exploded something ridiculous like 5000% in recent years (might be 500, not certain but a lot) for instance.

Intelligence is about 80% genetic. As unpalatable as the subject is to people, smart people have smart kids.

Free selective education after the war until the 70s pulled a lot of smart people out of the working class. We are now seeing diminishing returns and that is not down to teaching.

There's a massive gaping hole in that argument.

This is exactly what i'm saying, smart people with some learning issues used to just get dumped into some remedial class. But now it's understood and education has developed the chances of that person fulfilling their academic potential and class standing is much higher.

The science is settled on this now, where as the evidence was statistical before they now know the genes that are responsible for intelligence.

Mild symptoms can be diagnosed as "slow" and bright parents are more on the balla bout this sort of thing but I'm talking about an explosion in people who are autistic enough they cannot attend regular schools - you don't see someone like that and not notice there's something awry.
