Car snob who doesn't get a performance vehicle serviced at a main dealer. Fur coat and no knickers job.

You take on an AMG (not a diesel AMG wannabe) knowing that it's a high performance vehicle that needs appropriate TLC. You're not paying for the luxury of a natural straight six Porsche that only needs to be serviced every other year, you're getting it a lot cheaper and the extra costs are in maintenance.

It was a TYRE puncture, has nothing to do with service - my car got top extended Merc manufacturer warranty as well, which they can't legally tell me to service at the dealer (at least I believe that, but will sure check at renewal in a few months!).

The rant is about tulipty modern design choices when manufactures save money even on space saver wheel IN A FECKING SUV and mislead with their SPECIAL offer of their own roadside assistance.

Pretty sure they would not have done same tulip in Germany.

911 also got no spare wheel and I believe they got Porsche recovery number - pretty sure they won't tell you to feck off if you serviced car at trusted specialist - as fecking legally allowed to do without affecting manufacturers warranty and we are talking here about PUNCTURED TYRE FFS - it's not like I had engine blow up after specialist worked on it and then Merc refused to cover works under their warranty because "they did bad job" or whatever.

I am going to buy a fecking spare wheel and keep it in the boot. ******* SUV my arse, what if I was in the forest without mobile coverage, in winter?

I bought it because I liked it and because I have specialists that I trust locally who do excellent job on Mercs.

I also trusted that missing wheel will be dealt with by that special Merc Roadside Assistance as advertised on label near the drivers door.

Considering it's illegal to have a requirement to service at dealer only for far more valueable service such as warranty it was fair assumption that I could rely on Merc at the time of need for a service that can't possibly cost them more than few hundred quid over 10 years vehicle life. Any limits should have been put on a fecking label or otherwise very clearly communicated (they got my address).

It’s your choice when it comes to selecting where your car is going to be serviced and by whom. As well as being required to offer at least a two-year unlimited mileage warranty on all their new cars – regardless of any change of ownership – car makers in the UK cannot force a buyer to have their vehicle serviced by their official dealership network.

And that means they also can’t refuse to honour a new car warranty simply because a car has been serviced elsewhere. It’s all part of an agreement called the European Union Block Exemption legislation, which has been active for many years and which, even though the UK has now left the EU, still stands.

However, manufacturers do have the right to set a servicing schedule for their vehicles, which must be adhered to. So, if you do choose to turn your back on the main dealer and go instead to an independent engineer or mechanic, make sure you have your service book stamped, ensure you keep records of any work you have had done and insist that approved parts and lubricants are used in any repairs, in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Local specialist I use will get proper tyres and send me somebody to change it at mine

Will get car back to them after that for 2nd tyre and wheel balancing, plus checkup.

Now that's proper service.

No sane brand would leave you on side of the road with a tyre puncture because you did not service your car at their dealer.

Any money saved by having Merc free roadside assistance instead of AA or RAC must be more than recouped by their expensive servicing.
