If it was sailing into the wind and the bow struck first then the stern would have been pushed onto the same bank as the bow. And the opposite if the wind was coming from the stern. Probably the only way its going to get log jammed like that is if there is a current, which there isn't. Or if the wind magically changed half way through this event.

To me It looks like it has turned to starboard, the bow has hit and the stern has went to the other bank with momentum.

For every day the ship remains stranded another $9.5billion-worth of cargo is added to the traffic jam threatening 'absolutely enormous' consequences for global trade, experts have warned.

The scale of these things is just mind blowing. I'd love to go see one up close. I've been on the Oasis class cruise ships but these containers and tankers are even bigger.

It's easy to not believe wind caused this but at that size even a bit of wind must create a massive amount of push. I think we mustn't realise how much effect it has on something that's sitting in a body of water. They've often talked about putting large kites on the front of tankers to considerable reduce the amount of fuel used so the big ships must be more susceptible to it than their size tells.

It's quite obvious they are susceptible to strong winds when you think about it logically. They're HUGE big floating rectangles really. Get a strong wind blowing at that from the wrong direction and it's going to move. If it's at a slight angle to the wind then it's going to be pushed round. Yes, they can try to counteract with the rudders and whatnot but that's much harder to do in the narrow confines of a canal than out in the open seas.

We are writing to advise you that your order's UK arrival date may be delayed. This is due to the ongoing issue in the Suez Canal - you can find further information here on the BBC news website.
Didn't take too long for the excuses to start coming! Got some shutters coming in, eventually.

Windage IS massive but these things have an incredible amount of inertia. This is a pretty rare occurrence, someone has a lot of egg on their face.

I only found out the other day they'd created a 2nd 'channel' parallel quite recently. What a job that must have been.
