A person goes into the toilet. Someone follows them, pushes them into a cubicle, does whatever it is they decided they wanted to do, leaves. The attacked person may or may not be dead.

How did CCTV stop that from happening?

I think you are underestimating some of the issues with toilets. It is a big deal for many people. There are places I simply will not use the toilet at. Any roadside rest stop in Cuba, for a start

A bit TMI for the more delicate minded but a heavy period can mean a woman spends far too long looking for a decent toilet to use. Not asking for pristine but clean and with toilet roll, a working sink with soap shouldn't be too much to ask.

A lot of fuss is made about trans women and how they shouldn't be allowed to use a female toilet until they're post-op. What about trans males? Where should they go?

Then there's the whole cottaging thing that would probably be ruined by the presence of women in the toilet. Not being male or gay, I don't know how much they'd care TBH.

        I'd be in favour.
The proximity of a classy lady could add a frisson to the occasion

One benefit of having a Gender specific toilet is my wife can take my Daughters and young sons in and they feel safe coming out of the cubicle.

The thing that seems to happen when they create unisex toilets is that they frequently remove the urinal which decreases throughput massively.

If instead they retain or improve the urinal and double the minimum number of stalls that would help both the sitters and standers. Few men use the stalls while out except as an overflow urinal normally because the stalls are in a vile state and the seats are wet.

To see this is true look at the queues in Theatres, Cinemas and adventure parks. The ladies queue is always huge, my wife normally queues with the Girls, I pop in and use the trough then pick up any kids who don't want the toilet or go to the bar for drinks/snacks while we wait for the ladies.

A turn right to stand and left to sit with a shared wash area is my preference, more space for stalls & urinals.

I agree violence in toilets is unacceptable, prominent CCTV in public toilets is probably a good move for every user, automated obscuring of faces & intimate body parts is highly possible now. The cctv can be stored unmodified and watched with the correct authority (Police/ dual management attendance). It is also possible to use AI to identify when an issue may be occurring.

The best place to be a woman is at football matches, rugby matches and horse racing. As men tend to outnumber women by a lot there doesn't tend to be queues for the toilet.

It allows the Police to stop & prosecute them after the fact and ups the risk for the perpetrator which may make it less likely they offend in this way.

A video of the person being pushed into a cubicle is sufficient to prove assault anything more is hard to deny.

What would stop you being dragged into an empty men's/women's toilet and it happening there?

Its a burglar alarm that stops burglars raiding your house.

The best thing about gender-specific toilets is you can take in children of the wrong gender? Why are young children scared of men?

                    FTFY

Because statistically men are more likely to be abductors. When I take my young daughter I will make sure she has been then, urinate while she waits in the main area in my view.

We all know the quality of the images on CCTV is superb, facial recognition is really accurate and people planning nefarious deeds never attempt to conceal their faces.

CCTV, much like a burglar alarm, is no deterrant to people that are dead set on causing harm.

You'll notice I used no genders in my example as I know harm can, and does, occur in all toilets - gendered or otherwise. My challenge was about CCTV curing all known ills and being a sufficient deterrent. It isn't.
