I am in touch with a number of IT contractors (about 3 dozen now and rising) who want out and asked me for some help. The majority of whom I know from my hardcore contracting time, the rest have been referred by these.
My advice is always the same "don't leave via the fire exit and don't slam the door on the way out!"
He seems to have slammed the door on the way out and this article probably won't help his chances of a re-entry to the trade especially if a twitchy airhead HR type is involved in the process.
I'll be winding up soon and am looking at what to do next. Not old enough to retire but over-taxed if I work PAYE (due to property taxes on personal BTLs).Comment

I seem to have picked up contractors on this mainly who know me well from previous sites and some have witnessed me doing deals in hotels and the odd time dealing from a quiet corner of clientco offices. Others have been reffered by these contractors. The number of contractors wanting a natter is rising and I might, big might consider developing a little product for this. I don't have anything yet but I will put the thinking cap on and might test run it here if I come up with something good.
I started doing stuff this in 2004 as a sideline buying small internet businesses and made it a bigger thing than contracting in 2013. Most of my heavy duty contracting career involved flying away Monday and flying home Friday - I got a medical ban from flying in 2013 because of Meniere's disease. I did the odd contract between 2013 and 2015. I left IT really in 2015 but have had the occasional short comeback until 2017.
As some people here know my contracting now is a product/service combo for UHNWI and large country estates (business/land strategy). It is marketed as a product. I have had this since 2015.
A link to the magazine is in my sig. Please help yourself to a free copy and anyone else reading is welcome to do the same
If you have BTL's you could be a good position for a lot of things.
I am a pretty open guy and generally happy to chat and answer any questions here, just ask away! You can also PM me or email via my website if you would prefer.Former IPSE member
