The UK does have an open border with Ireland and it is UK government policy that it continues to do so.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostYou seem to think the Uk should have an open border with Ireland and you seem pretty intent on sneering at the concept of border control. So I am just checking whether you are nothing more than a protesting wailer or whether you have a serious argument.Comment

Fine but your suggestion is that the rest of the EU pours into the Uk through this border. So do we have open borders or not?Originally posted by Old Greg View Post

The domestic skill base is there but not 'mucho cheapness'. Unlike most (but not all) of the imported labour I have worked with. This is gradually being recognised.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostThe "ready supply of desperate candidates from eastern europe and the indian sub-continent" are doing these important jobs. It is critical that we increase the domestic skill-base so you don't have to fill any of them. But I wouldn't expect you to grasp that.
When businesses say there is a skills shortage what they mean is a shortage of those prepared to work for low wages. How many people who post on here are having difficulty finding a contract? Are they all rubbish? There doesn't appear to be a shortage.Comment

But these people are still more employable than shauny. This exemplifies the skills problem the UK faces.Originally posted by GB9 View PostThe domestic skill base is there but not 'mucho cheapness'. There are certainly many more like shauny on CUK, who shouldn't be filling any gap except in flood defences.Originally posted by GB9 View PostThe domestic skill base is there but not 'mucho cheapness'.
