I've thought all along that hardcore EU federalists want the UK out, as we're a thorn in their side.

Some of their apparently muppet-like crass pronouncements make much more sense in that light.

They were tolerating UKs bad behavior for greater good.

However if UK is out then it would be time to settle account and make example for others that deserting will be not be tolerated...

If we leave, the EU is toast.

I don't think they can help themselves. They know that even the Bremainers in the UK view people like Junker and Tusk as a complete waste of space and, after decades of the British being awkward, they've had enough Good. Feck off. They also know that the EU is more likely to collapse than the UK in the event of Brexit, which is ultimately good for democracy (just not their preferred form of democracy-light). The EU is no stronger than its weakest parts.

Lost jobs. So suddenly we will all stop shopping and eating the day after the vote?

More like they have personal fortunes at stake somewhere.

Euro will fall far harder if we leave, it's basically the end of the EU if Britain leaves, there will be a stampede for the exit by other nations, and the EU know it.

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

                      From the same article:

Mr McLoughlin said he feared global motor manufacturers such as Toyota and Nissan would choose to open new factories in rival countries if Britain pulled out of the EU’s single market trade zone, with its 500 million consumers.

There is “an unknown risk” that the “long-term future” of the UK’s highly successful motor industry could fall into decline, as happened with coal mining, he said.
