I come from an academic background, most of my friends are university profs, and the majority recoil in horror at the thought of leaving the EU. That said, it's surprising how little they know about the mechanics of the EU. They see the funding from Horizon 2020 and the constant flow of Ph.D's and postdocs from overseas and weight these quite highly. Which is fine. But they're no better informed on the EU more generally than the average punter (in many cases worse). Education is a good indicator of voting intention, but it isn't a good indicator of being informed on the topic.
