The purpose of the open doors policy was to give the EU more labour mobility. What it has done is to cover up the failings of the EU by making the UK, Germany repositories for the unemployed. In the USA labour mobility is vital to the prosperity of the country. In areas that are doing well labour moves to. This mobility allows for different states and (in the EU case) different countries to move economically at their own pace.
What is happening in Europe is that those that are mobile are unskilled and lack the skills that are really needed (IT being one). They move to the UK not to further their career but "to get a job". Many of these people send money home rather than spend it in the UK . This of course reduces poverty and unemployment in the rest of the EU much of which is caused by the EURO. The establishment know this because it props up the EU by hiding one of its main failings. people who smear these arguments and those that make them as racist are really quite pathetic.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

I know for a fact here in Germany the unemployed non-German citizens but from other EU countries are return to the country of origin free of charge. And it's not an aggressive action either."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". Mark TwainComment

My experience of grown up debates on the issue is the fast start falling apart when the outers start talking about Romanian mafia gangs and hordes of pick pocketing migrants coming to sweep the land and take all psychocandys JSA and all the usal FUD. Because talking about numbers, and figures doesn't help them. Because by any measure they contribute and more than cover themselves being here.
The outters can't come up with one rational view point on the issue. The best stab is a "drain" on services. It quickly falls apart when you take into account they aren't accessing many services outside of the usual School and GP visits and the UK has structural problem with these things well before any form of migration is taken into account. Putting the blame totally on piss poor UK governments you guys want to give more power!!!!

It may be a bit of a wishy washy liberal ideal, but part of the aim of the EU is to even out the prosperity in Europe, which is of course why we as a rich country pay in more than we get out. That is ultimately the best and probably the only way to deal with the issue of migration. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment
