Asking someone where a role is based is a perfectly reasonable question.
If you know that based on the description you could do the job, then the questions you need to ask are the ones not specified in the description.
The description said "west of London", now if we just stick to "west of London but within England", then that covers anything from Charing Cross to Bristol (or down to Cornwall as well). To many, Uxbridge is in London - it's inside the M25, it's London.
Do I apply for a role that I can't get to on a daily commute? Do I need to stay overnight because of the location? Do I want to apply for the role, because the description is something I can do?…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment
