Of course where is important, but this seems a bit excessive. Asking for the nearest tube station sounds like you're asking the agent to check a transit map for you. It does seem like an odd thing to do in an initial phone call to me. If I hear Edinburgh or anything south of the Border I of course say "no," but after that it depends on the role more and if I have anything else in the wings.

But if there is a chance you want it you've got to go for it. Turning down an interview because there might be a chance you don't want it is just stupid. What do you think is better? A couple of offers you can pick and chose from or **** all on the table because you might not like them?

Either that or you are so good you are guaranteed to get every gig young for. I'm certainly not.

Location is the most important thing, the pimp may have the perfect role for me but if its in Glasgow I ain't interested even for a 'bag of sand' a day.

In fact, that's usually the first thing they tell me, unless it's a permie role in rural wales, in which case they drone on about how amazing it is before dropping the bombshell that it's in a farmer's field in a village with population 27.

To not waste anyone's time you should immediately state the obvious deal breakers - what it is, and where it is.

No point in discussing the ins and outs of the client's requirements if the job is 400 miles away in the scottish highlands, or that they've picked up your .net software engineer CV for a structural engineering job on the severn bridge (both of which have happened to me).

Really baffled that people would think otherwise.
This, plus of course the package. I have wasted far too much time in the past because of this. Why does some idiot agent think I want to work for £10K less 2 hours away for a company going into bankruptcy? Yet if you ask at the end of the initial call they think you are obsessed by money or not committed enough.

If you don't know where it's located, how can you ask your accountant about T&S?

I think he asked the wrong question.

                  (1) How much is it?
                  (2) Does your mum own a brewery?
                  (3) Does she have big tits?
                  (4) Will she show them to me?
What happens in General, stays in General.

He had the location; it appeared he also needed the postcode/GPS marker before he wanted any further information. It's a bit odd, but I'm not sure why the agent bothered being snippy. Would have been easier to just not reply.

I was once accused of being mercency for telling a pimp that the rate he was offering for a role was too low
