Yeah, I'm not sure how UK is the client in DA's story - this country has received billions of euros for various projects. Of course I guess if one of them isn't a new back garden wall for your property they don't exist?

I think the UK could have managed to spend its own money on its own projects perfectly well. the difference being that it would have had considerably more of it to spend.

What has being an EU member got to do with that exactly?

Most inner cities had slum clearance programs post war

Feck all to do with the EU - more to do with post war austerity measures delaying matters - in my time I can recall Manchester clearing vast areas of slum properties, sadly they chose to build high rise blocks in place of the slums leading to similar issues, again feck all to do with the EU
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

What took the UK away from poverty was enterprise and business. it was Thatchers reforms of the public sector the Big bang and the dismantling of punitive tax rates that freed the population of the U. Embodied perfectly by the rise of the IT contractor!

so rubbish & broken windows would have been fixed by the EU?

nope thats the people who live there. Not all of them just a few.

however all of them could pick the rubbish up & keep the street tidy.

you can take the man out of the slum but you cannot take the slum out of a man
