My granddad had reliant robins because he never had a full driver's license, just a motorbike one, and a robin was considered to be the same as a motorcycle with side car.

You had to go to an MOT station and have a blanking plate fitted to the gear selector that stopped it going in to reverse to drive it on a motorbike licence. I had a Bond Bug in 1980 that I used in the winter cause I only had a bike licence at the time. You can guess, obviously, what happened to the 'no reverse blanking plate' 10 mins after you'd left the MOT station

It wasn't required. You could pick up the front end and turn the whole thing around on your own. They had a horrible tendency to roll also (see J Clarkson), but again could be rolled back over by hand and away you went.
