A good innings indeed, but still a shame. In the early 1970s, he used to pop up on Anglia's afternoon programming with a show called Looks Familiar, that consisted partly of middle-aged people being shown some old artefact and saying "Oh, my grandmother had one of those" then wheeling out an anecdote about life in the war. The early shows were amusing but they seemed to struggle to find decent out-takes in the later programmes.
