I picked up this bargain in 2009.

Des wreck: Britain's cheapest home on sale for just £1,000 (but it could do with a little fixing) | Daily Mail Online

40 years ago most people believed most things that were written in newspapers. They were managed, manipulated, etc.; think back to the Hillsborough cover ups and that a third of the lives post the crush could have been saved. The police cocked up and covered up. That wouldn't happen today with camera and video phones being so prolific, even with stadia and policing at the same standard.

70 years ago, people had just finished a 5 year period of fearing for their lives on a day-to-day basis.

100 years ago, people were yet to face the horrors of the Somme and trench warfare.

But yeah, modern life is rubbish.

Does anyone remember the power cuts and the rubbish piling up in the street, renting bedsits which didn't have central heating and broken windows, shared kitchens with everything including the crockery covered in thick grunge, and offices filled with thick cigarette smoke..

Those were the days with the "low hanging fruit".

Going further back, my Dad actually had to put in a request if he wanted Sunday off. As junior hospital Doctor he just afford the rent on a two up two down non-centrally heated house, no days off at all in his contract but would be allowed odd days off if he pleaded.

Don't worry those Victorian diseases we thought were eradicated are coming back.

Some like measles, mumps and rubella are due to people refusing vaccinations, others due to antibiotic resistance, others due to pollution, tulip weather and spending too much time indoors.

Least we still have an NHS...

When anyone bought the soft-hanging fruit in 1990 it dropped by 25% in 5 years.

I suspect house prices will drop at some point.

Takes courage to buy soft-hanging fruit because usually it's dropping like a stone.
And do you know what happened to anyone who bought gold in 1980? It looked like it would always rise, but it didn't. It looked like low-hanging fruit but it still hasn't reached that price again yet.

However I have tried this before guys, and you can never beat victim paranoia. If you are anything like what he calls "boomers" (as if we are all the same and all boomed), then it works like this:
If you are well off, you were just handed it all on a plate (stolen from future generations).
If you are not well off it must be your fault since you were just handed it all on a plate (stolen from future generations).

                      If you are like him:
You are poor compared to the famously rich boomers, because they stole it all from you. Never because you haven't just got on with what you've got.
