Just watching some interviews with survivors in Paris and I could not help comparing the young men who lay down when ordered, so they could be machine gunned, with the young men on the French train who rushed the gunman and prevented an atrocity.

Not fair. The brave chaps on the train were soldiers ie trained combatants and killers whereas those laying down were everyday people with no intention of dealing with violence and who were most likely paralysed with fear. Not everyone is equipped to deal with such situations.

Not ******* fair that is it? For starters the people in the theatre had 3 goons with kalashnikoffs in their faces. An absolutely appalling post.

A few years ago, if accosted by gunmen, I'd probably crap myself and do whatever they said in the hope of getting out of it alive.

What about now - probably the same. But I wonder whether I would be able to find the courage to overcome my fear and have a go at them. I'm no Steven Seagal, so I'd almost certainly get killed. But applying basic logic, it's still the best chance of survival, rather than lying down just for them to shoot you in the back anyway, which is what these nutters seem to be doing now.

Sounds straightforward, but it's too easy to get frozen with fear. I wonder how I would react.

Hopefully I will never get to find out...

Obviously know one knows, but what you do know is how you are pre-disposed. You have changed your predisposition based on facts.
Maybe we need more infantry training for the general population. join the TA or bring back national service.

U2 have cancelled their forthcoming Paris gig, as they feel the people of the city have suffered enough already.

With the ageing population and so many of us old farts looking for volunteer things to do maybe we could bring back Dad's Army.

Militias - that's the way to go
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

I see the "oh we caused it all" defence surfacing again.

Individually these are the types of people that would stone their daughter to death after getting raped. This is just the type of stuff they do when they collectivise.
