Well, that depends on whether you define things purely on economic indicators.

I would welcome a major downturn in the global economy. It would mean less pressure on the world's resources, less pollution and above all force people to reassess their whole raison d'etre and focus on things other than just greed alone.

We could all be poorer financially but better off as a society.

I agree with this that we can't continue as a society chasing endless growth it's unsustainable:

It has been suggested that if everyone on the planet consumed as much as the average US citizen, four Earths would be needed to sustain them. But where does this claim originate, and how is it calculated?

        Interesting.

I would like to know how well Labour are doing in Scotland. If they could win back the seats they lost last time it would make a big difference.

There again, if Cameron thought being left wing would keep him in power he would do it. He only cares about how people vote.

Be careful what you wish for. If the financial systems unravell then anarchy and extremism will prevail. The human race is on a path of development. Science will enable us to live longer that will in turn enable us to travel further from our planet even. We will develop new technologies to replace fossil fuels, remove pollution, control climate etc etc.

World War 3 would also be pretty good - solving overpopulation of Earth nicely.

Of course it isn't. Most of them never tried it when they were not "developed" either and really it's only ever been tried in societies that were ALREADY broken.

So a)you can't make generalisations about "total failure of any type of far left government" and b)Corbyn isn't far left. He's Centre-Left rather than Centre (left).

There are a lot of hard left roasters who vote SNP as they see it as the best way to achieve maximum socialism. I can see many of them ditching the nationalism and Nordic Socialism if Corbyn is promising a good bit of old school Marxism.

The SNP are pretty worried about this, as you can tell by the way they promised conditions for a second referendum about 36 hours after Corbyn got in, it has really fecked up their game plan.

Wikipedia says WW2 deaths top out at ~80m. Even if WW3 had casualties ten times that, it would only take us back about a decade in terms of world population.
