It seems to me one practical thing we could do is do more to stop the migrants coming across The Med. We have a whole navy that's essentially doing nothing, so why not give them something to do.
I have no idea how to solve the problem, I'm merely pointing out the difference in how refugees are being treated by different countries. If you end residing and working in a country and then your country of origin is declared safe you're not going to think "Thank you for taking me in I'll be going back now" it'll be more "Thanks for nothing, you're forcing me to go back".

    Maybe I'm wrong though

oh b***ocks I forgot the passports
      a bit naive.

The vast majority of illegal asylum seekers were young men who destroyed their papers intentionally so instead of saying they are coming from safe places like Nigeria they can pretend to come from a war torn state so your 'cute' story is just hogwash.

The whiff of citizenship is what is causing them to get into boats. Stop that and save lives.

I see Mrs Balls up is busy spending our money & future.

The fear of getting raped and beheaded is what is making them go on these perilous journeys. If citizenship was what they wanted, they could have done all this years ago.

True, but maybe the crisis is bad enough that bending international law is justified. In the context of invading Iraq because of fictional WMD, saving thousands of people from drowning seems like a very minor offence.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Why should the UK get involved atall? Whatever we do we seem to get critized for it.

You move out, live in a tent and let 10 in to live in your place then, you seem so keen on helping.

If the guys over there were being helpful and caring towards their brethren, we would not have a civil war there.
