Like it or not, they lobby on issues and are listened to - I don't believe it is a coincidence that some of the things that IPSE called for in the manifesto have already come to pass by chance.

If you aren't happy with how the organisation is doing things, then you have a choice - you can either try to influence from within or you whinge from outside. And the best places to influence from within are the CC and the board.

And as ms says - a couple of hundred quid today looks like you could well become part of something that does have influence within the organisation.
    Call it what you like?

I am still a member "PCG+" but have it specifically for insurance purposes. That's it. IR35 is the only reason. I am in business for myself and have no requirement/desire to get involved in another hobby. I have enough already.

Good luck to you both in your election process - I will vote for you, since at least I "know" you.
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).

      Great

Do at least read the candidate statements and have a look at the elections subforum - you could ask the other candidates to comment on your concerns to get their views too.

It's a bit disappointing that existing members can't be voted out, just new members added.
Maybe in future years when the council fills up.

Members have to get re-elected every 3 years to keep their seats. Unfortunately if we don't get more candidates this time, there (presumably) will not need to be an election - everyone will get in. I know I would prefer to be elected because people think I represent their views and not because there's no other choice.

1/3 of the CC are up for re-election every year (if they want to stand again).

Terms are limited to a maximum of two consecutive three year terms, following which the member must take at least three years away from being on the CC.

CC members can resign at any stage (there's been one maybe a couple this year).

Because of the change in governance this year, no-one has to stand for re-election this time round. Next year, there are a couple that won't be able to stand again because they will have had their two terms of three years.

FWIW, I don't agree with having a limit on the number of terms that people can serve, though.

It's a transitional year following a major governance overhaul, meaning there are a lot of empty seats and none of the current CC having to stand down (I would have been one of them under more normal circumstances, now I'm stuck for another year...). As of next year we're back to a large chunk of the CC having to stand down for-re-election (including me...). They year after that it's a third of them: the rules are made so that there is a continual refresh of the CC members.

I agree. What I mean is that it's a shame that everyone gets in until the upper limit is hit, rather than only individuals who receive either the most votes (if there were more candidates than spaces), or only individuals who receive more votes for than against (which would imply the ability to potentially leave empty seats).

I find a couple of current members fairly poisonous and hostile to ordinary members and it's strange that they can claim to represent members, without there being any way to challenge that at present.

FWIW, having met you, and of course seen your postings on this forum and IPSE, I feel I have a fair idea of what you stand for, so you get my vote.
BTW, it would be helpful to me to be able to identify people standing for election on this forum, so I can see their attitude to different issues - however, I guess that is down to them to decide whether they want to make that link between "real person" vs CUK personality. As it goes, I can look up what they've said on the IPSE forums if that's their "official" position vs the general messing about that goes on here.

I'm not standing as I really don't have time to contribute this year, and don't feel I have enough knowledge or experience as yet to make a positive contribution. Maybe next time, who knows?

There's two of us so far - ms and myself. If you have a look in the elections forum on the IPSE site, there is a specific question from tarbera to the both of us.

I think you'd be surprised about what contribution you could make - I've always been the same, until this year. But this year, I have something to say. With so many vacancies this year, the danger is that if there aren't enough candidates that the size of the CC shrinks a lot more - and given that this is the pool from which the board of directors is predominantly drawn, I don't think that's a good thing.
