I'd never touched Oracle until this project and I don't know if it's because of the way the developers here utilise it, but it appears (from the client side) to be the worst piece of software in the history of the world.

Microsoft, sql server and other stuff just works out of the box and if it does not work, there are tons of solutions on SO.

Java, Oracle and other tulip, just wont work and no amount of tinkering will make it work.

I can remember installing Oracle DB on Sun SPARC boxes in the 90's - linking, running root.sh in another terminal, hours and hours later it would say 'insufficient space in /tmp'.......
